The Winter Leader Bolt-on module is an additional qualification enabling MBLA Trail Cycle Leaders and Mountain Bike Leaders, as well as British Cycling level 2 & 3 MTB Leaders, to work outside the ‘summer conditions only’ remit of their qualifications. It consists of a 2 day training module and a 1 day assessment. The module enables the leaders to work in defined ’intermediate’ and ‘winter’ conditions but operate only in TCL/level 2 terrain regardless of the level of award that they hold. (MBLA remit).
Winter Leader module Training (ratio 1:12 day one & 1:6 day two)
Cycle 4 Adventure offer the Winter Leader module training course over two days. The course covers: riding techniques, trailside repairs, clothing and equipment, dealing with emergencies and effects of winter weather.
Please note: day two must be carried out in “Winter Conditions”; due to the unpredictable nature of our weather, day two may have to be re-arranged at short notice. The venue for day two will have to be confirmed at short notice.
Candidates must hold a valid TCL or MBL award, including a current relevant First Aid Certificate and be a member of British Cycling. Candidates should complete a log book sheet detailing a minimum of 4 recent rides of Winter Module standard. Rides should be in varied Winter Conditions.
Candidates will be expected to attend the course adequately prepared to lead a ride. No equipment will be supplied by the Tutor, but advice can be given on choice of equipment.
Winter Leader module Assessment (ratio 1:4)
Cycle 4 Adventure runs the 1 day assessment in Winter Conditions.
